ARRESTED FOR COMPLAINTS ABOUT TORTURE
To-day the police of the village Warenikowskaya in the Krasnodar area arrested Witali Kustov, who had told the “Novaya Gazeta” newspaper about the way the police had tortured him. They had applied electric shocks to his hands to obtain the declarations they wanted. After the story in “Novaya Gazeta” the authorities had started an investigation.
Now the police took him to court charging him with drunkenness in a public space, and the court sentenced him to 10 days of administrative arrest.
Another inhabitant of Warenikowskaya, Sergey Medwesh, told the “Novaya Gazeta” that the police had tried to put a bottle in his behind. This case was also investigated by the authorities.
Sergey Medwesh added that a member of the commission that investigated his complaint, one Romanchenko, was in the room where he was tortured!

SUCCESSFUL REVOLUTIONS
What to think of this position found in the Swiss Neue Zuercher Zeitung:
Genauso wie Kriminalität ist politischer Aktivismus eine Freizeitbeschäftigung, die mit anderen in Konkurrenz steht. Revolutionen haben dort Erfolg, wo viele junge Menschen unterbeschäftigt sind.
See : http://www.nzz.ch/nachrichten/panorama/vom-sofa-aus-gibt-es-keine-revolution_1.16334539.html
In my translation:
As crime, political activism is a leisure time activity competing with other activities. Revolutions are successful in countries where many young people are underemployed.
The idea reminds me of the Russian superfluous of Bakunin’s times, perhaps including Bakunin himself. His contemporary Pawel Wasilyewich Annenkov wondered what Bakunin would have done with his life had he not become a revolutionary. (The book in which I found this is in Wolfgang Eckhardt’s library in Berlin.)
Brutal attacks will show that I’m not the only reader of this bulletin.
