Anarchisme Bulletin Nr. 46 – April 2012

02/04/2012

(th.h)

(1)  ACTIVITEITEN

THE PUSSY RIOT STORY

To keep things together I include the parts that were already in the previous bulletin, sometimes slightly altered/completed.

MOSCOW – 21ST FEBRUARY – PUSSY RIOT SING ON A KREMLIN WALL

Don’t feel uncomfortable if you don’t know Russian: the pictures speak for themselves:

http://www.grani.ru/blogs/free/entries/195012.html

%5BDon’t miss the video!]

Before, they had sung in the nearby Christ the Saviour Church :

http://www.grani.ru/Culture/Music/m.195817.html

Later they said they had prayed to the Mother of God asking her to give the people of Russia the courage to vote Putin down – (at the presidential elections of the 4th of March)

The girls have been arrested and there is a lot of fuzz about the case from the side of friends and enemies of the girls with every day new statements and developments. Depending on the law article used in the trial that is likely to come the girls may get up to 7 years in prison. The well-known regime-friendly singer Yosif Kobzon compared their act with the attack on a Moscow theatre a few years ago in which over a hundred people were killed. Among the first demanding exemplary punishment were ultra-nationalists purporting to defend the official Russian Orthodox Church (it seems their not always peaceful actions are often appreciated by church dignitaries, see my Kolokol Newsletter No 17 of March 2011)). The parents of the girls have received death threats, their lawyer reported recently. Initially, Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church condemned the action of the girls fiercely but when shortly afterwards a scandal broke out about one of the four houses or apartments he owns in Moscow he started showing understanding.

Anyway, support for the girls is most welcome.

(I hope the “credo” in the name of this site does not put you off too much. I understand the site is an alternative to official Russian websites run by people critical of the official Russian Orthodox Church. It posts items about the Pussy Riot story as they occur and feeding “Pussy Riot” in their search blank brings you a list of links to all the developments and statements in the case from the beginning onwards. You just have to know some Russian.

Background

This show presents posters, books and other artifacts from the collection of Lorraine and Fredy Perlman prior to their donation to the Labadie Collection at the University of Michigan. Major periods and events represented include the May 1968 Uprising in Paris, the operation from 1969-1980 of the Detroit Printing Co-op, the translation and subsequent publication of the first English version of Guy Debord’s classic Situationist text “The Society of the Spectacle”, the substantial catalog of publications from the Perlmans’ Black & Red press and the immense research undertaken by Fredy Perlman for his epic historical works “Against His-Story” and “The Strait”. In broad terms the material plots a similar path to the journey of Fredy Perlman, an influential thinker and printer based in Detroit from 1969 to his untimely death in 1985.

The Paris of 1968, that “brief moment when, for the first time, and by way of paths that are still now very poorly understood, critical thinking rejoined practice”, deeply affected Fredy Perlman and provided him with a constant reference point in his lifelong quest for social change. The Detroit Printing Co-op provided a collaborative project where political goals, the dissemination of ideas and the craft and labor of printing could be practiced simultaneously. This show provides a unique opportunity to view the printed legacy of that era and question whether that moment and the social change that Perlman sought are unthinkable.

AMMON HENNACY, THE BOOK OF AMMON

This great classic is now completely and freely accessible at

Info and frequest:

From the ANARCHY ARCHIVES -
http://dwardmac.pitzer.edu/Anarchist_Archives/

Construction of this archive began September 5, 1995. My goals are eventually to provide at one site the collected works of the major anarchists and an online history of anarchists and anarchist movements worldwide, including a graphics archive. In the Spring 1997 semester, students at the Claremont Colleges began making contributions to Anarchy Archives as part of Political Studies 155, Anarchy and the Internet. If you have links to texts or historical archives not included here, please let me know at dward@pitzer.edu.

Thanks to Frank Cordaro & Co. for passing this on.

WAS LENIN JEWISH?

WHO IS SO HOMELESS IN THE US?

Parental rejection has become so prevalent (in the US) that LGBT youths make up an astonishing 40 percent of the nation’s homeless youth population.

From an open letter in the Huffington Post to New York Cardinal Dolan because of his problems with LGBT people:

UPDATE, 4 april 2012

Bas Moreel zond zojuist de volgende tekst:

Hope for Pussy Riot

Pussy Riot girls prisoners of conscience.

Amnesty International has declared Nadezhda Tolokonnikowa, Maria Alekhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich prisoners of conscience and demanded their immediate and unconditional release.

Source: http://www.grani.ru/Politics/Russia/Politzeki/m.196860.html

Shortly after I had seen this item I found the following on grani.ru (first paragraph of a longer article) :

Konovalov: the Pussy Riot girls ought not go to prison

Justice minister Aleksandr Konovalov is upset by the punk prayer in the Christ the Saviour church, but holds that the participants do not deserve real prison time. “As a practising christian I was not happy to see how some aunties celebrated a witch sabbath in the main church of the country. As a lawyer I’m ready to consider this matter soberly and rationally. I don’t feel that they deserve a harsh punishment. I would say they deserve some punishment, may be a conviction. But rather not prison”, Interfaks quotes the minister.
